What is Traditional Dual Enrollment?

A student may enroll in courses at the University to earn college credit while still in high school.  This program provides a student the opportunity to be introduced to the college environment, explore majors, and get a head start on a Bachelor of Science degree.

Who is eligible to take dual enrollment courses at HU?

  • Complete the application online.
  • Submit an official high school transcript showing a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale;
  • Successfully complete the placement examination administered by the University, as required;
  • Submit consent forms from high school counseling/principal’s office and parent or legal guardian;
  • Submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOFEL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) when the applicant’s native language is not English. A demonstration of English proficiency is required of any student who is not a United States citizen. Acceptable demonstrations would include one of the following:
    • Earning a TOFEL score of 80 or higher on the web-based version, 200 on the computer version, or 520 on the paper version or
    • Earning a IELTS score of 6.0 or higher.

 

WHERE ARE DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES HELD?

Traditional classroom courses located in downtown Harrisburg, Pa. or in downtown Philadelphia, Pa. during the academic year.  Online courses (limited number).

HOW MUCH DOES DUAL ENROLLMENT COST?

For the courses offered at Harrisburg University (Harrisburg or Philadelphia Campus), the cost is $200 per credit.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE DUAL ENROLLMENT CREDITS?

There is no application deadline.  Application files are reviewed within two weeks of submission.  The applicant is encouraged to apply as soon as possible and coordinate the application with the appropriate high school officials (often the Counseling Office) prior to high school course selection for the appropriate semester.

WHERE DO I APPLY?

All course registrations must be completed through this site.  For traditional dual enrollment courses please ensure you choose either the Harrisburg Campus or the Philadelphia Campus from the list of sites.  You will receive notification once your application is received, and additional information regarding the courses you register for will follow soon thereafter. Any questions regarding registration can be directed to Caitlin Wilkinson, Dual Enrollment and Special Programs Coordinator, at CWilkinson@HarrisburgU.edu.  Parents may use funds from their established PA 529 College Savings Program accounts to pay for 1 dual enrollment while their child is in high school.
